The methanol-to-olefin (MTO) reaction is one of the most important and innovative reaction routes connecting coal-based chemicals and petrochemical production. It also provides an alternative way to produce basic chemicals from some abundant non-oil resources, such as coal or natural gas. The reaction involves the formation of a C-C bond from a C1 reactant as an initial step followed by an induction period.
